Castell d'Alaquàs
Spain, Spain
Castell d'Alaquàs is a beautifully preserved 16th-century Renaissance palace-castle in the town of Alaquàs near Valencia, Spain, originally built on earlier Islamic foundations from the 11th century after the Christian conquest by Jaume I in 1238.
Commissioned around 1582 by nobleman Luis Pardo de la Casta and later under Jaume García de Aguilar, it blends Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles with elegant facades, intricate woodwork, medieval graffiti, and feudal lordship features like defensive walls facing east toward rising threats.
Now a cultural center and museum showcasing Valencian history, it stands as one of the finest examples of transitional military-residential architecture in the Horta Oest region.
