Castell d'Alaró is a medieval rock fortress perched at 822 meters on Puig d'Alaró in Alaró, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, with origins tracing to the 10th century as an Arab stronghold known as Hisn Alarum.
After the Christian conquest in 1285, it gained fame for the heroic resistance of Guillem Cabrit and Guillem Bassa against Aragonese forces, becoming a symbol of Mallorcan defiance, while its Gothic ruins include walls, five towers like the emblematic Es Constipador keep, cisterns, ovens, and a prison carved into the rock.
Evolving from military bastion to sanctuary with the 1622 Mare de Déu del Refugi oratory, it now draws hikers for panoramic Tramuntana views and recent archaeological finds like a deeper prehistoric cistern.
