Castell d'en Boix
Spain, Spain
Castell d'en Boix, also known as Castell de Boixadors or Castell de Taradell, is a late 9th-century medieval fortress located southeast of Taradell in Osona county, Catalonia, Spain, strategically positioned on a hill to control access routes near the Bages and Anoia borders.
First documented around 1014-1015 and held by the Boixadors family from 1123, it features a circular keep tower, ogival-vaulted hall, cistern, dovecote, and protective walls around a stately mansion, forming a barony that passed to the Foixà and later Salvà families until the 19th century.
Declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 1949 with restorations by Barcelona's Diputació since 1971, the ruins near Sant Pere de Boixadors church offer panoramic views and represent early Reconquista defenses.
