Castell de Bairén, also known as Bairén Castle or San Juan Castle, is a historic fortress located about 3 km from Gandia in Valencia, Spain, perched on a 100-meter hilltop offering stunning sea views.
Built in the late 10th century as a Muslim stronghold, it gained fame during the 1097 Battle of Bairén, where El Cid and Peter I of Aragon defeated Almoravid forces led by Muhammad ibn Tasufin, securing a vital victory in the Reconquista.
Later handed over to Christian forces in 1239, the site features remnants of its citadel, walls, and settlement areas, now preserved as an archaeological park popular for hikes and history exploration.
