Castell de Biscarri
Spain, Spain
Castell de Biscarri is an 11th-century fortress situated on a hill above the Romanesque church of San Andrés de Biscarri in the village of Biscarri, now part of Isona i Conca Dellà municipality in Lleida province, Catalonia, Spain.
Built during the Reconquista as a key base for Count Ermengol III of Urgell's conquest of Pallars from Muslim control, it was donated to Arnau Mir de Tost, whose 1071 will bequeathed it to his daughter Countess Valença and grandson Arnau, later confirmed by Ermengol IV while retaining comital lordship.
By the 14th century under the Chapter of Seo de Urgell until feudal rights ended in 1831, only sparse wall remnants survive today at the village's highest point, integrated into the historic fabric near the old settlement core.
