Castell de Bufalaranya
Spain, Spain
Castell de Bufalaranya is a 10th-century medieval fortress situated on a steep hill northeast of Roses in Alt Empordà, Girona province, Catalonia, Spain, also known historically as Castell de Pinna Nigra within the Sant Pere de Rodes monastic domain.
Likely constructed during the Reconquista as part of the coastal defense network against Muslim and pirate threats, it features an irregular walled enclosure adapted to the rocky terrain connecting Sierra de Can Berta and Trencada Valley, with eastern access preserving much of its perimeter amid Puig de l'Àliga peak.
Declared a Cultural Property of National Interest, these well-preserved ruins attract hikers via trails from the Roses-Cadaqués road, offering stunning panoramas of Cap de Creus Natural Park, the Bay of Roses, and Costa Brava coastline.
