Castell de Capdepera
Capdepera, Spain, Spain
Castell de Capdepera is a well-preserved 14th-century medieval fortress and walled village atop Puig de Capdepera hill in Capdepera, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, built around 1300-1310 by King Jaume II on earlier Moorish ruins to protect locals from pirate raids.
Covering about 8,000 square meters in a trapezoidal layout with massive Gothic-style walls, embrasures, watchtowers like the central Torre d’en Miquel Nunis, a church, cisterns, and houses, it symbolized the Holy Trinity through its triangular form and housed a self-sufficient community until abandonment in the 18th century.
Today it serves as a historic site with a museum in the restored governor's house, offering stunning sea views and traces of prehistoric Talayotic structures amid the island's northeastern coast.
