Castell de Cardona is a formidable medieval fortress crowning a hill in Cardona, Barcelona province, Catalonia, northeastern Spain, constructed in 886 by Count Guifré el Pilós to control the vital salt mining region.

Evolving from a 9th-century stronghold with the iconic Torre de la Minyona keep into a residential seat for the powerful Lords of Cardona who amassed wealth from salt exports - the complex features Romanesque-Gothic elements like the adjacent Sant Vicenç collegiate church, one of Catalonia's earliest examples.

Strategically reinforced during the 17th-18th centuries with bastions against French incursions and serving as the last Catalan bastion in the War of Spanish Succession until surrendering in 1714, it now operates as a Parador luxury hotel preserving its military history amid panoramic valley views.
