Castell de Castellciuró
Spain, Spain
Castell de Castellciuró, located near Molins de Rei in Baix Llobregat, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain, is a medieval fortress of Visigothic origins from the 8th century, first documented in 1066 as part of the Marca Hispánica frontier defenses against Muslim forces along the Llobregat River valley.
Built on the site of the earlier Torre de Guadallo (mentioned in 998 AD) at 155 meters elevation in the Collserola mountains near Santa Creu d'Olorda, it was controlled by Muslims, then reconquered by Christians, reformed in the 12th century by the Knights Hospitaller and Templars, and further expanded in the 14th century under figures like Jaume II and Queen Eleanor.
Now in restored ruins with surviving walls, a rock-hewn cistern, and scenic viewpoints, it exemplifies early frontier fortifications alongside nearby castles like Castelldefels.
