Castell De Claramunt
La Pobla de Claramunt, Spain, Spain
Castell de Claramunt in La Pòbla de Claramunt, Catalonia, Spain, is a 10th-century medieval fortress built on a 453-meter hilltop as part of the dense network marking the County of Barcelona's frontier against Al-Andalus during the Reconquista.
It features two enclosures: a lower defensive ring with seven open-backed towers, a Romanesque church of Santa Maria from the 11th century showcasing Lombard influences with apses and stripes, and a Gothic chapel of Santa Margarida; plus an upper sovereign area with a distinctive 11-sided keep tower, Gothic hall, and cistern.
Controlled by the Claramunt then Cardona families as the administrative center of the Òdena basin—surviving wars, sieges, and partial demolitions in 1463 and 1714—it was restored in the 20th century and now serves as a managed cultural heritage site offering panoramic views.
