First documented in 971 as Castrum de Granito and part of the County of Manresa, it features Romanesque architecture with an irregular polygonal layout adapted to the terrain, high-quality stone walls using lime mortar, and remnants of Gothic structures like a chapel inside.

Once owned by local lords and later passing through noble families, it offers stunning panoramic views toward Montserrat and serves as a key historical site accessible via local paths, popular for Epiphany sunrise gatherings.
