Castell de la Punta de n'Amer
Spain, Spain
Castell de la Punta de n'Amer is a 17th-century coastal defense tower in the Punta de n'Amer natural area between Cala Millor and Sa Coma, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain.
Completed in 1696 after a 1611 pirate attack prompted its construction by engineer Martín Gil de Gaínza, the square sandstone fortress rose 35 meters above sea level with a moat, drawbridge, spiral stairs, cannon platform, and armaments for 2-3 guards to protect against Barbary corsairs.
Reactivated during the Spanish Civil War as a communications post with adjacent barracks now serving as a restaurant, it features a small museum on piracy history amid prehistoric talayots and bunkers, offering bay panoramas.
