Castell de la Tallada
Spain, Spain
Castell de la Tallada is an 11th-century medieval castle crowning the highest point of La Tallada d'Empordà village in Baix Empordà, Girona province, Catalonia, Spain.
First documented in 1071 under the Counts of Empúries, it passed to the barony of Verges by the late 14th century and into Crown of Aragon hands by 1587 via the bailía real, changing ownership through figures like Ponç V and VI de Ampúries, the Rocabertí family, and Dalmau viscounts amid feudal marriages and sales.
As the origin of the settlement built around it, this protected cultural asset exemplifies frontier defense architecture in the Ampurdán region.
