Castell de les Sitges
Spain, Spain
Castell de les Sitges is a Romanesque-Gothic castle-palace in Torrefeta i Florejacs, Segarra region, Lleida province, Catalonia, Spain, strategically positioned to dominate the Llobregós River valley.
First documented in 1116 as castrum de Ciges and linked to nearby Florejacs Castle from 1100, it served as a key Christian stronghold during the Reconquista, later passing through noble families like Alemany de Cervelló, Josa, Ribera, and Agulló de Pinós before confiscation in the War of Spanish Succession and eventual return to descendants.
Featuring a 20-meter quadrangular homage tower with an elevated access door, surrounding walls, central courtyard, cellars, dungeon, Gothic interiors, and Renaissance windows, it exemplifies a transition from military fortress to noble residence, now open to the public as a cultural event venue protected as a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
