Castell de Relleu
Relleu, Spain, Spain
Castell de Relleu is a ruined 11th-century Muslim castle overlooking the rugged town of Relleu in Alicante province, Spain's Valencian Community, built on a 440-meter hill for defense and panoramic views.
Its irregular polygonal layout spans about 600-1,720 square meters with thick mampostería and tapial walls following a half-moon shape, including remnants of several towers—such as a prominent square main tower—an aljibe cistern, and interior buildings, now heavily filled with debris.
After James I of Aragon conquered the area, it passed to Bernat de Sarrià, but the 1609 Morisco expulsion left the town depopulated until Christian resettlement; today, the protected ruins highlight its historical role amid pre-Roman Iberian and Roman influences nearby.
