Castell de Rupià
Rupià, Spain, Spain
Castell de Rupià is a Gothic civil palace and former episcopal residence in the village of Rupià, Baix Empordà comarca, Girona province, Catalonia, Spain, first documented in 1128 under the feudal control of the Rupià lineage before Bishop Pere de Castellnou acquired it in 1268 for 34,000 sueldos, transforming the original castle into a prominent bishopric stronghold.
Expanded during the 14th and 15th centuries with a rectangular stone layout, prominent Gothic windows including a triforada one diaphragm arches in the noble hall, and 15th-century enclosure walls that once encircled the church of Sant Vicenç and early village nucleus, it served administrative roles amid regional conflicts like the 1385 Rosellón threats.
Part of Rupià's declared Historic-Artistic Ensemble, the preserved structure integrates into the town's medieval fabric alongside ancient towers repurposed as oratories, overlooking cork landscapes near the Costa Brava.
