Castell de Sant Marçal
Spain, Spain
Castell de Sant Marçal, also known as Sant Marçal or Cerdanyola Castle, is an 11th-century medieval fortress in Cerdanyola del Vallès, about 20 minutes from Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain.
First documented alongside its church in the early 11th century and explicitly mentioned by the 12th when Count Ramon Berenguer IV donated it to his seneschal, it passed to the Plegamans family in 1225, whose descendants, including the current XXII Marquis of Serdañola, have owned it for 700 years.
Originally a square-plan structure with a central courtyard, defensive tower, Gothic chapel, and moat, it was romantically restored in 1895 by architect Cayetano Buïgas with Romanesque and Gothic Revival elements, now serving as a private event venue blending history and luxury.
