Castell de Tibi
Spain, Spain
Castell de Tibi, also called Castillo de Tibi or Castillo de Atalaya, is a 10th-century Almohad fortress situated on Loma de las Monjas hill overlooking the village of Tibi in Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain.
Built during Muslim rule to control key routes in the Horta d'Alacant region under kings like Zayt-Abu-Zayt until its conquest by James I of Aragon in 1240, the structure features a rectangular main tower, adapted walls, and later Christian modifications amid a landscape now dominated by Spain's oldest reservoir built under Philip II.
Recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural, the restored ruins provide panoramic vistas of mountains, the embalse, and valley, serving as a cultural landmark tied to medieval frontier history and local legends.
