Castell Vell refers to several ancient castles in Catalonia, Spain, with the most prominent being the original medieval fortress in Barcelona's Born district, built in the 10th century to defend one of the city's gates during post-Roman threats and later protecting against Almanzor's 985 raid.

This square-towered stronghold, part of four protective castells around Barcelona alongside Castell Nou and others, featured robust walls and evolved through Visigothic, Carolingian, and early medieval phases before its demolition in the 19th century for urban expansion, leaving archaeological traces at Plaça de l'Àngel. 

Other examples like Castell Vell de Solsona from 957 showcase similar Reconquista-era architecture with Gothic adaptations, symbolizing Catalonia's frontier defenses amid layered Iberian, Roman, and Islamic influences.
