Castelo da Frouxeira
Spain, Spain
Castelo da Frouxeira is a ruined medieval fortress atop Pico da Frouxeira near 500 meters elevation in Santa Cilla do Valadouro parish, Foz municipality, Lugo province, Galicia, northwestern Spain.
Built as a roquero castle of nearly one hectare divided into four enclosures, it belonged to the Mindoniense bishopric and passed to Marshal Pedro Pardo de Cela through marriage, serving as his defiant stronghold from 1481 until his betrayal and execution in 1483 during the Irmandiño revolts and Catholic Monarchs' campaign.
Largely demolished without stone left atop stone, scant rock-cut foundations and wooden structure rebates remain as a Bien de Interés Cultural, immortalized in the folk "Pranto da Frouxeira" lament amid scenic coastal views.
