Castelo de Mesía
Spain, Spain
Castelo de Mesía is a late 13th or early 14th-century fortress-tower located in the village of A Pobra, Mesía municipality, A Coruña province, Galicia, northwestern Spain.
Built as a defensive stronghold for the local jurisdiction under the bishop of Santiago de Compostela, it featured an inner walled tower with exterior polygonal defenses and a deep moat, serving noble families like Gonzalo Díaz de Mesía who documented it in 1401.
Destroyed during the 1467 Irmandiño revolts and later restored by Archbishop Alonso II de Fonseca, the ruins now reduced to 18-meter-high rounded exterior walls stand abandoned as a protected Bien de Interés Cultural, reflecting Galicia's feudal conflicts near Santiago de Compostela.
