Commissioned around 1594 by General Diego das Mariñas to bolster defenses after English attacks like Francis Drake's raid, the bastioned structure designed by Pedro Rodríguez Muñiz features robust walls and strategic positioning complementing nearby forts San Antón and San Martín.
Later expanded in the 18th century, it served as a noble residence for figures like Emilia Pardo Bazán's family before becoming a children's summer camp post-Spanish Civil War, now preserved as a scenic historic site offering bay views amid lush vegetation.
