Castelo dos Andrade
Spain, Spain
Castelo dos Andrade is a medieval fortress situated in Pontedeume, A Coruña province, Galicia, northwestern Spain, with origins tracing to the 13th century under the Andrade family, powerful nobles who controlled the region.
Remodeled extensively in 1367-1371 by Fernán Pérez de Andrade "o Boo" on orders from King Henry II of Castile, it featured multiple towers, a polygonal wall, and a strategic hilltop position overlooking the Eume River for defense and dominance.
Destroyed in the 1467 Irmandiño revolts, it was rebuilt into its distinctive octagonal 18-meter-high keep by Diego de Andrade using rebel labor, later serving in the Carlist Wars before partial ruin and preservation as a historic tower now housing an interpretation center.
