Castillo Alcazaba de Bujalance
Spain, Spain
Castillo Alcazaba de Bujalance is a 10th-century fortress in Bujalance, Córdoba province, Spain, built around 935 under Caliph Abderramán III as Bury al-Hans ("Tower of the Snake")—a key defensive outpost in al-Andalus with a rectangular layout measuring 59 by 51 meters. Originally featuring seven towers built with Hispanic tapial and Roman spolia like a Claudian-era miliario, it underwent Christian adaptations including 14th-century reforms and 1512 renovations funded by Queen Joanna I, preserving three towers: Las Palomas, Mazmorra, and Malvavisco, plus a vaulted aljibe. Declared a Historical Monument in 1963, its courtyard now hosts summer cultural events like theater festivals amid panoramic countryside views.
