Castillo de Alcalá de Guadaíra in Alcalá de Guadaíra, near Seville, Spain, crowns a hill overlooking the River Guadaíra and traces back nearly 4,500 years to Bronze Age settlements, with its main fortress built by the Almohads in the 11th-12th centuries as Qalat Yabir for defense.

After its conquest by Ferdinand III in 1247, Christians expanded it with features like octagonal towers in protocastellana style, walls, battlements, patios such as Patio de los Silos and Patio de la Sima, a hammam bath, and the Torre Mocha gate, turning it into a border stronghold against Granada until the 16th century.

Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, it later served as a residence, watchtower, and prison—infamously holding Diego García de Padilla in its cistern—before falling into ruins, now hosting an interpretation center amid archaeological remains.
