Castillo de Alcalá del Júcar
Alcalá del Júcar, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Alcalá del Júcar is an Almohad-origin fortress from the 12th-13th centuries, dramatically perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Júcar River gorge in the town of Alcalá del Júcar, Albacete province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.
Conquered by Alfonso VIII of Castile around 1213, it later belonged to the Marquis of Villena and saw major 15th-century reforms, featuring a distinctive pentagonal keep, two small circular towers, and remnants of encircling walls amid a history of Iberian, Roman, Berber, and Christian occupations.
Today, the restored castle offers stunning panoramic views, complementing the town's cave dwellings, Roman bridge, and unique mountain bullring as a highlight of its historic-artistic ensemble.
