Castillo de Alesga
San Salvador, Teverga, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Alesga is a ruined medieval fortress on a hillside in San Salvador d'Alesga, Teverga municipality, Asturias, Spain, overlooking the San Pedro Valley and strategically positioned near the Puerto de Ventana pass linking Asturias to León.
Measuring roughly 20 by 40 meters with a central square tower, it features remnants of a small circular tower, drywall sections, and possible Iron Age foundations atop speculated Roman origins, first documented in 1122 as Castellum Sancti Petri during its donation to Cluny Monastery.
Owned by the Casa de Miranda in the 15th century under Oviedo's bishopric, it declined after 1593 señorío redemption, preserving traces of two construction phases amid Asturias' rugged early medieval defensive network.
