Castillo de Almoguera (en ruinas)
Almoguera, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Almoguera (en ruinas), located in the town of Almoguera in Guadalajara province, Spain, originated as an Arab fortress that defended the settlement from early medieval invasions.
It was controlled by the Order of Calatrava after the Christian reconquest and expanded during the Middle Ages, but partially destroyed around 1445–1446 by Ramírez de Guzmán, nicknamed "Carne de Cabra," who seized control as self-proclaimed master of the order before dismantling it upon defeat.
Today, only faint wall remnants survive on the rocky hilltop, controversially "restored" in 1998 into a faux-medieval viewpoint park that draws mixed reactions from history enthusiasts.
