Castillo de Alpetea
Villar de Cobeta, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Alpetea, near Villar de Cobeta in Guadalajara province, Spain, is a medieval ruin featuring a single Muslim-style tower from the 12th century, built with stone slabs on a steep hill overlooking the Tajo and Gallo rivers.
Possibly linked to prehistoric occupation and legends of the Moor Montesinos converted by a shepherdess during the Christian reconquest around 1140, it saw later use with fortifications rebuilt in 1810 during the Peninsular War and Civil War bunkers from 1936–1938. Today, the dilapidated site offers stunning Alto Tajo views and serves as a hiking landmark in the natural park.
