Castillo de Aviados
Spain, Spain
Castillo de Aviados is a ruined Spanish fortress located in the village of Aviados within the municipality of Valdepiélago in León province.
Likely built in the late 11th century atop an impregnable limestone rock, it featured three walled enclosures around a rectangular tower and was once considered among León's strongest castles.
Owned by the powerful House of Guzmán from the late 13th century, it served as a summer residence until its destruction by order of King Charles I after the Comunero Revolt in 1520-1521, as punishment for the owners' rebellion; it was never rebuilt.
