Castillo de Batres
Spain, Spain
The Castillo de Batres is a well-preserved Renaissance fortress-palace from the 15th-16th centuries, located in the small town of Batres south of Madrid, Spain, near the Toledo border.
Built by noble families like the Laso de la Vega and Guzmán on ancient flint foundations, it served as a residence for the renowned poet Garcilaso de la Vega, who spent his childhood there and referenced it in his works.
Featuring Gothic-Isabeline portals with family coats of arms, four angular towers, thick brick walls, and elegant double-gallery courtyards with Toledan columns, it was declared a historic-artistic site in 1970 and now functions as a hotel, wedding venue, and gardening school amid olive groves.
