Castillo de Burgos is a medieval fortress crowning the Cerro de San Miguel hill overlooking the city of Burgos in Castilla y León, Spain, with origins tracing back to the 9th century when Count Diego Rodríguez Porcelos founded the city and established its defenses.

Transformed over centuries with Mudéjar-style updates under Alfonso VIII and palatial embellishments by Henry IV, it later housed a gunpowder factory, Spain's first artillery school, and French fortifications during the Peninsular War before being dynamited by retreating troops in 1813.

 Today, its evocative ruins offer panoramic city views, an interpretive center, a deep medieval well, and exhibits on its strategic role in Castile's history amid scenic gardens and walking paths.
