Castillo de Cabañas in Cabañas del Castillo, Cáceres province, Extremadura, Spain, dates its origins to the 12th century, likely built atop an earlier Muslim structure as part of the defensive system protecting Andalusian territories south of the Tagus River during the Reconquista era.

Following the Christian reconquest of Trujillo in the 14th century, it integrated into the feudal estate of Oropesa and the Marquisate of Jarandilla, with restoration work by García Álvarez de Toledo for King Henry II, later passing to the Duchy of Frías earning it the alternate name Castillo de Frías. 

Perched on a steep 70-meter crag overlooking two valleys, its strategic position enhanced natural defenses alongside its walls, safeguarding this frontier zone in the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark; today, the ruins attract visitors for their historical and scenic value amid raptor-rich landscapes.
