Castillo de Castilnovo
Spain, Spain
Castillo de Castilnovo is a historic fortress near the village of Villafranca in Segovia province, Castile and León, Spain, with origins possibly dating to the 8th century under Arab rule in Mudéjar style and later rebuilt in the 12th century after the Christian Reconquest.
Enlarged by Álvaro de Luna in the 14th century and used by Ferdinand and Isabella during their travels, it features a rectangular plan with six round and square towers, now well-preserved as a Bien de Interés Cultural declared in 1931.
Once owned by the Catholic Monarchs and inherited by the Velasco family, it has been adapted over centuries, including 19th-20th century reforms, and operates partly as a hotel with a Spanish-Mexican library.
