Castillo de Castrocalbón (restos)
Spain, Spain
Castillo de Castrocalbón consists of scant ruins perched atop the highest point of Castrocalbón village in León province, Spain, next to the Virgen del Castro hermitage, and was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1949.
Archaeological digs have uncovered sillería stones, columns, capitals, ceramics, and layered floors suggesting possible Templar construction reusing earlier structures, potentially passing to the Ponce de Cabrera lords after the order's dissolution.
Only a well-preserved sillería arch and a 3.4-meter-wide earthen wall with argamasa remain from what may have been a castle or palace, linked to later 15th-century additions and King Alfonso VII's 1152 Fuero charter regulating local rights, markets, and feudal ties.
