Castillo de Coca
Coca, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Coca is a stunning 15th-century Gothic-Mudéjar fortress in the village of Coca, Segovia province, Spain, built primarily of brick between 1453 and 1473 by Archbishop Alonso de Fonseca on the site of ancient Roman Cauca.
Commissioned as both a noble palace and military stronghold, it features a square layout with robust polygonal corner towers including a prominent keep, a deep moat fed by the Voltoya River, machicolations, arrow slits, and elegant inner courtyards blending Islamic geometric patterns with Flamboyant Gothic arches.
Owned by the Dukes of Alba and now managed by Castile and León authorities, it endured sieges like the 1521 Comunero Revolt, later renovations, and serves today as a well-preserved monument open to visitors.
