Castillo de Cogolludo
Cogolludo, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Cogolludo, perched atop a hill in the town of Cogolludo, Guadalajara province, Spain, originated as a Muslim fortress in the 11th century and was rebuilt by the Order of Calatrava after Alfonso VIII granted it to them in 1176.
The Knights of Calatrava fortified the site with walls around the town and repaired it in the 14th century, but it suffered partial destruction during the 1811 War of Independence, leaving it in ruins. Today, these atmospheric remnants offer a glimpse into medieval military architecture amid the scenic black architecture towns of Castile-La Mancha.
