Verified Castillo de Coruña del Conde (ruinas)

Coruña del Conde, Spain, Spain

Castillo de Coruña del Conde consists of 10th-century ruins atop a hill overlooking the village of Coruña del Conde in Burgos province, Spain, founded during King García I of León's repopulation of the Duero Valley near the ancient Roman city of Clunia.

Heavily contested during Muslim-Christian wars, it was conquered by Almanzor who used it as a base, later reformed after Christian reconquest before obsolescence led to abandonment and stone quarrying that left only battered wall sections, cylindrical and prismatic towers, and a barbican.

Classified as a historic site, early 21st-century reinforcements stabilized the progressively ruined structure once repurposed as a village sports wall, preserving its legacy amid the scenic countryside.
