Castillo de El Coronil
El Coronil, Spain, Spain
Castillo de El Coronil in El Coronil, Seville province, Spain, is a medieval fortress with origins tracing back to Celtic-Iberian watchtowers, later fortified by Moors into a small stronghold and rebuilt by Christians after the Reconquest around the late 14th century as part of the "Banda Morisca" defensive line.
Featuring a nearly rectangular enclosure measuring 50 by 25 meters with four corner towers, a main tower of homage flanking the entrance gate, vaulted chambers, arrowslits, and capped battlements built in masonry, it visually linked with nearby castles like Las Aguzaderas for frontier protection.
Repurposed over time as Civil Guard barracks, an oil mill, and private residence, it remains well-preserved under municipal ownership, now hosting cultural events in its main patio while protected as a historic site since 1949.
