Castillo de Guadamur
Guadamur, Spain, Spain
The Castillo de Guadamur is a well-preserved 15th-century Gothic-Mudejar fortress in the small town of Guadamur, Toledo province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, built in phases around 1470 and 1520 by Pedro López de Ayala, Count of Fuensalida, over an earlier Muslim structure.
Featuring a square layout with two walled enclosures, a protective moat, machicolations above the entrance, cylindrical towers for artillery defense, and Italian-inspired decorative elements like pearls and pyramids, it served as a noble residence hosting figures such as Philip the Handsome, Joanna the Mad, Charles V, and the imprisoned Princess of Éboli.
Damaged by French troops in the Peninsular War and again in the Carlist Wars, the privately owned castle has been restored and now offers guided tours showcasing period armors, tapestries, and paintings amid scenic olive groves.
