Castillo de la Duquesa, Spain, Spain
Castillo de la Duquesa is an 18th-century fortress in the coastal area of Manilva, Málaga province, Andalusia, Spain, built in 1767 under King Charles III to defend against Berber pirate raids and control coastal trade routes.
Constructed atop Roman ruins from a 1st-5th century fishing village that produced garum sauce, the square stone structure features a central courtyard, barracks, and panoramic sea views, later serving as a customs house and briefly occupied by French forces in the 19th century.
Today, it functions as the Manilva Archaeological Museum, housing Roman artifacts like salting pools and mosaics, and hosts cultural events amid the modern marina setting.
