Castillo de la Yedra
Cazorla, Spain, Spain
Castillo de la Yedra, also called the Four Corners Castle, overlooks Cazorla in Jaén province, Spain, with roots in an 11th-century Muslim fortification possibly from the Almohad era that was expanded by Christians in the 13th and 14th centuries. Conquered by Ferdinand III in 1232 and granted to the Archbishop of Toledo, it served as the capital of the Adelantamiento de Cazorla, a key frontier outpost against Granada, with major additions like the alcázar under Archbishop Pedro Tenorio in the late 14th century featuring Gothic interiors. Repaired after a 1694 flood and stripped of cannons by Napoleonic troops around 1810, it now houses the Museum of Arts and Customs of the Alto Guadalquivir, showcasing local history and ethnography amid its keep, walls, and scenic views.
