Castillo de Laguna de Negrillos
Laguna de Negrillos, Spain, Spain
The Castillo de Laguna de Negrillos is a medieval fortress-palace in the village of Laguna de Negrillos, León province, Spain, originally built in the early 13th century as a key defensive outpost along the Vía de la Plata route.
King Alfonso IX documented it in 1205 when granting the town's charter, noting its strategic role with surrounding walls, and it served as a military base during his campaigns into Castile. Rebuilt in the 15th century by Diego Fernández de Quiñones and María de Toledo—parents of the famous knight Suero de Quiñones—into a square-trapezoidal castle-palace over 1,100 m².
It features a well-preserved five-story keep tower, crenellated walls, two corner turrets including the Torre de la Reina, and an elevated entrance, though it fell into ruin after the 16th century when integrated into the County of Benavente.
