Castillo de los Luna de Mesones de Isuela
Mesones de Isuela, Spain, Spain
Castillo de los Luna in Mesones de Isuela, Zaragoza province, Aragon, Spain, also known as Castillo de Mesones de Isuela, originated with a donation to the Templars in 1175 by Sancha de Abiego, but the main structure dates to the 14th century when Archbishop Lope Fernández de Luna built it around 1379 in limestone.
Featuring a rectangular layout with six towers—four at corners and two midway on longer sides—this Gothic-Mudéjar fortress divides into defensive eastern sections and a southern palatial area with two interior patios, a standout southwest homage tower with Gothic details, and a Baroque chapel from 1680 adorned with Mudéjar plasterwork, painted wooden ceilings bearing Luna family heraldry, and symbolic motifs.
Restored between 2005-2009 at a cost exceeding 463,000 euros and declared a Bien de Interés Cultural, it preserves its military heritage amid the region's rolling landscapes.
