Castillo de Los Molares
Los Molares, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Los Molares in Los Molares, Seville province, Spain, was built in the early 14th century around 1310 by order of King Ferdinand IV as a key fortress in the Christian "Banda Morisca" defensive line against the Kingdom of Granada, granted to Lope de Haro as a reward for his role in the Battle of Algeciras.
It endured plagues, raids, and expansions under the Ribera family from 1430, who remodeled it into a stronghold with a pentagonal homage tower (originally square), flanqueo tower, vaulted chambers around a central patio, and nearly intact crenellated brick-and-ashlar walls, hosting fairs and poet Baltasar del Alcázar in its prosperous 16th century.
After 19th-century restorations using Portland cement by Enrique de la Cuadra, it now serves as a historical interpretation center tracing the town's story from prehistoric dolmens to modern times, protected as a cultural asset.
