Castillo de los Pimentel
Alija del Infantado, Spain, Spain
Castillo de los Pimentel is a majestic 15th-16th century fortress-palace in Alija del Infantado, León province, Spain, originally built atop a 13th-century palace of the Ponce family and attributed to Bernardino Pimentel Enríquez around 1514.
Forming a grand quadrilateral enclosure with corner towers, square turrets, and a 13th-century pointed triple archway, it served as the administrative heart of the powerful Infantado lordship under families like the Pimentel, Quiñones, and Duques del Infantado.
Damaged by fires in 1808 during the Peninsular War—when English forces torched it amid its owner's shifting allegiances—and again in 1887, the restored structure endures as a Bien de Interés Cultural symbol of local noble heritage.
