Built around 1490 by Pedro Dávila, lord of Villafranca, as a border outpost amid noble conflicts between León and Castile, it features an irregular plan blending with the rock, a 15-meter keep tower with arrow slits and gunports, and a rock-cut cistern for sieges.
Its evocative name ("although it pains you") ties to legends of forbidden love involving Lady Guiomar signaling her lover with beacons, and it stands as a declared Cultural Interest Site, reachable by a 2.5 km hike with walkable ruins.
