Castillo de Miranda del Castañar
Miranda del Castañar, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Miranda del Castañar is a 15th-century fortress in the picturesque village of Miranda del Castañar, Salamanca province, Spain, constructed by Pedro or Diego López de Zúñiga, the first Count of Miranda del Castañar, atop earlier defensive remains.
Featuring a polygonal enclosure with six circular salients, a prominent rectangular tower of homage with machicolations, circular artillery loopholes, and Gothic paired windows, it protected the strategic Sierra de Francia region during medieval border conflicts.
Privately owned yet well-preserved, the castle overlooks the town's well-maintained walls from the 13th century and is viewable from the adjacent bullring plaza, though internal access is limited.
