Castillo de Moclín
Moclín, Spain, Spain
Castillo de Moclín is a mid-13th century Nasrid fortress atop the fortified town of Moclín in Granada's Loja region, Spain, known as Hins Al-Muqlin or "fortress of the two pupils," built to defend the kingdom's frontier against Castile following conquests like Alcaudete in 1340. One of Granada's best-preserved defensive complexes with a complete encircling wall, it withstood constant sieges—including the 1485 Battle of Moclín where Granadans routed Count Cabra's forces—and fell to the Catholic Monarchs in 1486 after Loja's capture, later serving as their temporary court until Granada's 1492 surrender. Damaged in the Spanish Civil War and restored in 2012-2013, its ruins feature towers like Mingoandrés and Porqueriza, aljibes, and panoramic views, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1931.
