Castillo De Moeche
Spain, Spain
Castillo de Moeche is a 15th-century medieval fortress located in the valley of Moeche, within San Xurxo de Moeche parish in A Coruña province, Galicia, northwestern Spain.
Originally constructed in the 14th century possibly by García Rodríguez de Valcárcel or Fernán Pérez de Andrade amid conflicts between Pedro I and Enrique II, it passed through noble families like the Osorio before being destroyed during the Irmandiño revolts of 1467 led against abusive lords.
Pedro Álvarez Osorio rebuilt it using captured rebels as labor, creating the current octagonal structure with 10-meter-high, 3-meter-thick granite walls, an 18-meter gatehouse keep, and internal courtyard, now restored and managed by local authorities as a historical site hosting exhibits and reenactments.
